What is Tricare and where can I find more information about it?

Tricare came out from the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services (CHAMPUS). It’s basically a medical benefits program for care services in military training facilities (MTFs).

It also helps manage costs for diagnosis and treatment for civilian services outside of the MTFs. Tricare kicks into effect if proper treatment and care are not available directly from a DoD treatment facility such as an MTF.

If you’re interested in information about eligibility, care, providers, costs, and claims, you can read about it in the Sailing with TRICARE, for Sailers and Their Families. Or you can obtain a copy of this at your local Tricare Service Center.

Guidance can be found on the DoD Tricare homepage, here (Tricare website).

If you want to know more about the Tricare Dental Program, you can find more information in the Tricare Dental Program Benefit Booklet or you can search the Tricare Dental homepage, here (Tricare Dental website).
